Energy-efficient Nationwide Initiative of Reliable and Modern Appliances for New PMAY Homes Empowering PMAY Homes with Energy-Efficient Appliances A CONVERGENCE OF PMAY-G AND PMAY-U WITH UJALA SCHEME

The Government of India’s flagship missions — PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G) and PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U) — aim to provide safe, dignified housing to rural and urban poor. As States near completion of physical housing targets, there is a timely opportunity to add further value by equipping these homes with energy-efficient appliances.

The E-NIRMAN initiative proposes convergence of PMAY-G and PMAY-U with the Government’s UJALA Scheme, implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). This enables provisioning of efficient lighting and cooling appliances for PMAY beneficiaries in a structured, cost-effective manner.

Objective to equip newly constructed PMAY homes with energy-efficient appliances, thereby:

  • Reducing electricity bills for low-income households.
  • Improving comfort and lighting conditions.
  • Supporting energy conservation and climate goals.
  • Reduce load on the electricity distribution network.

Proven Model:

Andhra Pradesh Experience The Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation Limited (APSHCL) successfully implementing this model by partnering with EESL to distribute energy-efficient appliances to 1.5 lakh PMAY beneficiaries. Valued at ₹85 crore, the initiative is expected to result in annual energy savings of 142 million units and equivalent monetary savings. This clearly showcases the feasibility, impact, and scalability of the E-NIRMAN model for replication by other States.
