About NECP

National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP)

The National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) is a flagship initiative under the Government of India’s Go-Electric campaign, launched on 2nd November 2023 by the then Hon’ble Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy. The programme aims to promote widespread adoption of electric cooking by creating awareness and enhancing public acceptability through the distribution of induction cooktops across households and institutions such as Anganwadi Centres. NECP is designed to drive energy efficiency, support environmental sustainability, and ensure cooking safety at the grassroots level.

2. Objective

To replace inefficient cooking solutions with clean, energy-efficient, and affordable alternatives, thereby promoting sustainable and modern electric cooking practices in Indian households, community kitchens, Anganwadi Centres, and other public institutions. With the aims to achieve:

  • ✅ Enhanced energy efficiency and cost savings
  • ✅ Improved indoor air quality and safety
  • ✅ Support for National SDGs and energy transition goals
  • ✅ Scalable integration with existing government schemes
  • ✅ Increased awareness and public acceptability of electric cooking

3. Proposed EE Appliance under NECP

  • 1200W Induction Cooktop with Energy Consumption display and Child lock facility.
  • Stainless Steel Utensil set; optional: (Pressure Cooker outer-lid 5ltrs, Kadhai 4ltrs, Patilas 3 & 5ltrs)

4. Funding Mechanism

To ensure large scale adoption and zero financial burden on beneficiaries, the program may be funded through:

  • State funding / Special grant allocations
  • Convergence with Government Schemes: PMAY, Anganwadi strengthening (ICDS), MPLADS/AJAY Scheme, CSR, DBT etc.

5. Implementation Model

  • State Nominated Agency will be the lead implementing body.
  • EESL will supply the appliances to designated state warehouses/storage points.
  • Last-mile logistics and distribution to households will be managed by the State Agency.

6. Roles & Responsibilities

Stakeholder Role Description
State Nominated Agency (SNA) Overall coordination; signs MoU with EESL; provides designated locations/warehouses; issues work order; disburses funds to EESL; arranges distribution to beneficiaries.
EESL Procures and supplies Energy Efficient Appliances to State-designated locations.
