EESL bags award for excellence in promotion of energy efficiency

Central Board of Irrigation and Power hails EESL’s flagship scheme DELP, street lighting project for outstanding contribution to energy savings

New Delhi, December 30, 2015: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Public Energy Services Company under the administration of Ministry of Power, Government of India (GoI), has been awarded the prestigious CBIP Award 2016 for “Excellence in Promotion of Energy Efficiency”.

Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) presented the award to EESL for “Outstanding contribution in accelerating the National Programmes on Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) and Street Light National Programme (SLNP)”, on December 29th 2015.

Sushri Uma Bharti, Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation conferred the award, consisting of a plaque and a certificate, to Shri Venkatesh Dwivedi, DGM (Technical) and Shri A.K. Arora, Advisor HR at EESL.

Energy Efficiency Services Limited created a benchmark this month by crossing the four crore mark of distributing LED bulbs in India within a span of 25 days since its three crore hit in November 2015. In addition to Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, EESL’s flagship initiative DELP has now reached Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Karnataka.

The consumer engagement through DELP has been phenomenal due to which EESL could reach the three crore mark of distributing LED bulbs in one month and four crore mark in less than a month. Due to the transparent procedure of procuring the bulbs and registering consumers under DELP scheme, it has helped the programme to cover maximum states in the country. EESL is hopeful that with the success of this programme in all the states, it will be able to achieve its target on time.

The distribution of the LED bulbs has helped energy saving of more than 1.41 crore KWh per day. It has also helped to avoid peak demand of 1,326 MW and Rs. 5.56 crore cost savings per day which has led to carbon reduction of 11,570 CO2 per day.

The DELP programme of EESL, a Government of India initiative, through a combination of aggregation and transparent procurement, has achieved a rapid decline in LED prices. EESL has been able to slash procurement prices by 75 per cent and is able to pass this discount benefit to the consumers. In addition, thrust is to bring down the LED bulb price in the retail market (currently Rs. 300) so that there is sustainable market for these energy efficient LED bulbs.
